FESTIVAL INFO Over the last 33 years, the NZ Fringe Festival has firmly embedded itself in the Aotearoa arts calendar as a safe inclusive space for emerging and established artists looking for support with the development of their arts practice and to find a receptive audience for their new works. NZ Fringe provides an umbrella of organisational, developmental, ticketing and marketing services to our registered artists in efforts to support them to succeed artistically and financially, while also helping raise their profile and develop their careers. A major factor for many of these artists to be part of Fringe is the support provided by our small, dedicated festival team.

NZ Fringe provides year-round support and artist development programmes for emerging artists to support their sustainability and growing art practice, including ‘Tour Ready Awards’ to Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and San Diago Fringes. In 2022 we also established a new ‘Emerging Pasifika Artist Award’ with support from CNZ and two new ‘Aotearoa Tour Ready Awards’ to both Auckland and Dunedin Fringe Festivals.

PROGRAMMING OBJECTIVES

Participating artists in the NZ Fringe can express themselves artistically within a supported, open-access environment. Artists are free to present their work without barriers of curation and gatekeeping. As a result, participating artists range from arts graduates, emerging artists and more established artists, across diverse backgrounds - cultural, ethnic, gender and ability.

AUDIENCE

Due to the diverse nature of the artists and their work and the communities they represent, the NZ Fringe actively develops links between communities, encouraging audiences to explore new ideas and experiences and challenge their prejudices. Seeing our tickets sale increase by 26% in the face of the entire season operation under RED in 2022, we are deeply encouraged to see our growing audiences are as resilient and adventurous as our artist and team!
